About Us

Pedal Play Mobile Bike Rodeo is a one-day community event for children (6+), youth, and adults. The purpose of the Pedal Play is to educate cyclists and motorists in a fun, interactive environment to increase safety awareness and better enable more effective and safer sharing of the road. All participants, regardless of their level of experience will go away with heightened safety awareness and confidence.

Pedal Play is hosted by the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association

Organized by Transportation Action Committee Kanata-North, Councilor Wilkinsons office, City of Ottawa Safer Roads Ottawa.

Karrie Turner – Admin & Community Liaison

Since 2012, Karrie has worked as an assistant to City Councillor, Marianne Wilkinson and got involved with Pedal Play through volunteering with the Councillor’s Transportation Action Committee Kanata North (TACK). Prior to 2012 she worked in a variety of roles in the computer software industry. The TACK committee works on many cycling related projects, including a cycling map of Kanata North where the routes are coloured by experience levels.

Monna McElveny – Project Manager

Monna-Leigh McElveny comes to us as a career safety professional with National Defence, where she was the Command Safety Officer for Chief Maritime Staff. Now, happily retired, she spends her winters on the slopes of Mont Ste Anne as a ski instructor. In the off season, she teaches CANBIKE 2, and is rather passionate about increasing education for cyclists and motorists alike, with regard to bike safety awareness and competencies to better enable effective and safer sharing of the road. Monna has been recognized with the 2014 Bruce Timmermans Award, for her work promoting safe cycling in the community and in particular with the Kanata Nepean Bicycle Club.

Natasha D’Souza – Website and Social Media

Natasha likes to connect the dots and find solutions to problems. She also believes that you can make a change and if you can see the solution then you should do something about it. She is passionate about bringing change to her community through Pedal Play. She will be

  • focusing on engaging with other communities so that they too can have Pedal Play events
  • bringing stories to the community via interviews with people doing interested things related to cycling
  • working behind the scenes to make this event a success
